- about the process of Eunoia II

Nuit Blanche Toronto featured the exceptional talents of more than 300 local, national and international artists and curators transforming the city of Toronto on October 1, 2016. I had a pleasure working with a phenomenal choreographer Peggy Baker for this year's Nuit Blanche Toronto. Here's a short clip of it.

I gave a talk about my most recent performance piece "Heartmonic" @ The New Museum's theater for NEW INC's Demo Day in July. I had my heart rate sensor attached to my chest to show my heart rate variations while giving a talk.

The exhibition "Dialogues of Light and Sound" is a special project of the 6th Moscow Biennale. It will unfold the interrelation and most progressive elaborations in the field of light-and-sound aesthetics in form of installations, new media and technologies. This exhibition is the first survey of how the synthesis between vision and sound address to the social context today.

4DSOUND @ART QUARTER BUDAPEST
I spent 2 weeks at Budapest in August with 4DSOUND team members to develop my new performance piece NUE for 4DSOUND: Circadian. We started our conversation to work on a project together from January, so it was exciting for me to finally meet them. We tested with my brainwave sensor, and custom-built mobile application to created sound sequences for an opening performance at TodaysArt, The Netherlands.
- August 2015 -

I had such an interesting experience when I was testing the sound with 4DSOUND system while wearing a brainwave sensor. It was very unusual, because I've never seen brainwave data like this in the past. If you see these images above, you will notice that #1, #2, #3 Red (Attention values) and Blue (Meditation values) are parallel to each other. The rest of the grayed out brainwaves are (Alpha, Beta, Delta, Theta, Gamma). For this performance, Attention and Meditation values are dominantly being used, so I wanted to make them more visible. I included #4 image as a reference to compare with the rest of the images. #4 is normal. I still don't know why it happened quite a few times (for about 5-10min each). When I was at 4DSOUND space, I was sometimes feeling uneasy due to the loudness of the sound intense vibrations from the speakers. I am not used to being in a omnidirectional sound environment, so I am assuming that maybe the reason why it happened. The paralleled brainwaves only occurred when I was feeling overwhelmed by the sound vibrations.

It is still on-going project. It was first showcased at Reverse gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
Check the link below to see more data visualizations of participants' brainwaves during the exhibition period. Blue represents 'Meditation' values and Red represents 'Attention' values from using NeuroSky EEG headset. The more meditated a participant was during the experience, Blue is more visible and dominant or vice versa. These circular shapes were formed based on connecting the beginning and ending point of the data.
