“In Rhythm (vr.2), the two participants provide unique play of this collaborative digital painting. The thickness and color of the brush marks created by the influence of participants' movements and the curve of their emotions, draw their own Jackson Pollock-style abstraction."

Rhythm (Version 2)

Inspired by Jackson Pollock's masterpiece Autumn Rhythm Number 30, "Rhythm (Vr.2)" is a collaborative work where two participants wear Apple Watches to draw a live digital painting with their heart rate. Custom software and iOS App were used to draw brush marks on the main wall display, turning participants' heart rate into a unique abstract painting.

Participants control their heart rate with their free gestures and movements, and the resulting heart data controls the intensity of the brush mark's thickness. Slow heart rate is shown as thin brush marks, and a fast heart rate is shown as thick marks in real-time.

It was developed as a part of Apple Carnegie Library's opening event 'StoryMakers Festival.' StoryMakers Festival invited 40 artists, poets, activists, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, and community builders to celebrate storytelling and inspire the public to tell their own stories. The session 'Art Lab for Kids: Heartbeat of D.C. with Lisa Park' invited kids and families to participate in "Rhythm (Vr.2)."
